Helping Captives: A Documentary Shedding Light on Human Trafficking

How one faith-based group fights sex trafficking through education, prevention, intervention & recovery.

How We Got Started

For the team at Victory Media, this story isn’t just another project—it’s a calling. Over the years, we’ve felt God steering our production company toward something greater than ourselves. That path became clear when Dayne Kuhlmann, our CEO, reconnected with his longtime friend Caleb Altmeyer. Hearing firsthand the raw, painful stories from the front lines of Caleb’s work sparked something deep—a conviction that this story must be told.

At the same time, our team members Matt Champine and Hannah Hislop—both of whom have come from ministries and groups fighting trafficking—shared their own experiences and burden for this cause. It became unmistakable: we were being led to use our time, our talents, and our treasure to serve in this fight.

What began as a stirring in our hearts became a bold decision to act. Although Helping Captives is the central organization we’re supporting, this documentary is an independent production—one created in deep collaboration, but not commissioned. It is our way of responding faithfully to what we believe God is asking us to do.

Our Why

We believe in the power of story to open eyes, stir hearts, and catalyze change. Human trafficking is a darkness that thrives in silence, and our mission is to shatter that silence with light.

Victory Media has come alongside Helping Captives because their work embodies the Gospel in action—offering freedom, safety, and restoration to survivors of sex trafficking through prevention, intervention, and recovery. Their reach throughout Spokane and Northern Idaho is profound, but the story is bigger than one region. It’s a national crisis. And it’s personal.

This film is our act of obedience—to raise awareness, to stir people to action, and to honor the courage of those who fight every day for freedom. We’re not just telling a story. We’re answering a call.

The Documentary

Helping Captives is more than a film—it’s a frontline lens into one of the most pressing human rights issues of our time. This feature-length documentary will take viewers inside the real and raw world of sex trafficking—uncovering how it hides in plain sight, how it takes hold of victims, and how ordinary people are rising up to dismantle it.

Told through survivor testimony, frontline stories, and expert insight, this film will not sensationalize. Instead, it will dignify. It will reveal not just the horror of trafficking, but the hope and healing possible through faith, community, and relentless love.

Shot in partnership with Helping Captives, the film will follow the daily work being done to rescue and restore, while drawing connections to the broader national crisis and the cultural shifts needed to confront it. From Spokane to cities across the country, the story unfolds with urgency—but also with redemption at its core.

This is a documentary for anyone ready to see clearly, feel deeply, and be moved to act. It’s a wake-up call—but also an invitation to believe that freedom is not only possible, it’s already underway.
